Recent comments by Dr. Yasir Qadhi regarding Islamic epistemology have generated significant discussion within the Muslim community. His characterization of Islamic approaches to hadith as requiring "leaps of faith" creates confusion among believers rather than providing clarity. This analysis demonstrates that Islamic epistemology operates through systematic evidence evaluation rather than the "faith-based" methodology described in his presentations, and that this approach is not only rationally sound but demonstrates clear advantages over Western academic approaches.

Does God command things because they are inherently good?If this is true, the Atheist posits, then morality is something that exists outside of God. Rather, God has a dependency on and a requirement to act based on an external and self-contained moral code. This renders him non-omnipotent because this moral code is not in his power. Moreover, we can go directly to that self contained source of morality and bypass God. We don’t need God for morality. And in this case morality can be objective for both theists and atheists alike.

All the prophets of Allah Ta'ala are protected from committing sins according to the consensus of Muslim scholars based on overwhelming textual and logical evidence. This protection from sin is what Muslim theologians have termed:“’Ismah.” What this entails is that while the prophets have the physical ability to sin, e.g., hands to steal, their pure spirit, character, and divine help from Allah Ta'ala deter them from such actions.

As Muslims, we believe that things are forbidden or permissible solely because Allah Ta'ala said so. It is not our place to question Allah Ta'ala on any of His rulings. That being said, what we can do is try to understand the infinite wisdom behind Allah Ta'ala’s commands based on the Qur’an and Sunnah using our limited intellects.
